"A community is a wonderful thing that provides a place for people to explore not only their surroundings, but themselves as well", said Barrett. "By working in the community and with fellow civilians we are able to become more well-rounded people and are able to truly take pride in where we live and come from. I feel that community gives me so many opportunities to grow, that the least I can do is give a little back." Barrett is currently a senior at Graves County High School with a 3.75 GPA.

"My community has done so many things to help me become the person that I am today," said Kellie. " I believe it is important to give back and help others in the same ways that I have been helped." Kellie is currently a senior at Mayfield High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.76 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: FBCA - Chapter Reporter, Key Club, Beta Club, Cardinal Pride, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Pep Club, Science Club, First United Methodist Church Youth Group, FUMC Youth Council, Postponing Sexual Involvement Teen Leader and the Mayfield/Graves County Youth Leadership.

"There are a variety of aspects that are involved in your community", said Ryan. "If one is not involved with community activities then they do not have the right to vote on certain issues. Being involved with community not only keeps one up to date on important issues and events, it allows a person to be exposed to different experiences and become a well-rounded individual." Ryan is currently a senior at Union County High School with a 4.0 GPA.

"Involvement in my community is very important because in times of need, such as deployment, the community becomes a family", said Aleia. " It is important to be there for them because you never know when you will need them there for you." Aleia is currently a senior at Fort Campbell High School with a 3.9 GPA.

"I believe it is important to be involved in my community because living in a small community as I do, I know nearly everyone and in turn, everyone knows me", says Jordan. "With this being the case, younger kids all over the community look up to me as a sort of role model, so it is important for me to set a good example for them to follow." Jordan is currently a senior at Meade County High School with a 4.0 GPA.

"It is important to be involved in your community because it makes you feel important," said Kristen. " There isn't a greater feeling in the world than knowing that you made a difference." Kristen is currently a senior at Ohio County High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.77 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: Team Esteem (Drug Free Club), Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Council, Hartford United Methodist Church Youth Group, DARE Role Model, and Eagle Excellence. She has also volunteered as a youth soccer trainer and a soccer camp counselor.

"To be involved in community, people will get to know you better and you will have a chance to help people who need support and help," said Nermin. "Also being involved in community gives me a chance to spread my ideas, and help develop out the community for a better life." Nermin is currently a senior at Warren Central High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.90 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: Soccer team, Robot Engineering team, Beta Club, Bosnian/American Club and Math Computer Club. He also received awards in Chemistry I, All State Soccer and Spanish I & II.

"It is so important to be involved in community service because that's what we are here for," said Cali. "We're supposed to go out and do the great work of God by serving others, especially those less fortunate." Cali is currently a senior at Greenwood High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.98 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: Varsity soccer team, basketball team, Beta Club and a Homecoming Court nomination. Other activities include Bible Study, volunteer work serving breakfast at Ryan's Steakhouse, Britthaven Nursing Home visits, participation in a home makeover for a deserving community member and she raked leaves throughout the City of Bowling Green.

"Being involved in the community allows me to help others who may not be as fortunate as myself," said Tory. "It also allows me to contribute and give back to the people in this community who have helped me to become the person I am today." Tory is currently a senior at Central Hardin High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: 3-year Football Varsity Letter Winner, Captain of Football Team, Varsity Letter Winner in both Powerlifting and Track. Volunteer assistant instructor for GED Preparation Program and a volunteer vice president for CLADS training.

"It's important to be involved in the community because it is an opportunity to help people other than myself", said Latasha. "Being involved also allows me to interact with others, and get to know them while they get a chance to know me." Latasha is currently a senior at John Hardin High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.62 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include being Varsity Captain of the basketball team, a member of the varsity track team, YMCA Black Achievers of Lexington, Distributive Education Club of America, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She also gives extensive hours of volunteer service to various groups in her community.

"It is important to be involved in community to help others who haven't had the advantages that I had, such as support from my family, friends and school staff," said Lavon. "I think it is important to help others to get involved and develop as leaders. I also want to be a good example for other African American students." Lavon is currently a senior at Butler Traditional High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.4 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: Peer tutoring, Lincoln Foundation member, Beta Club member and Class Officer.

"It's important to be involved in my community," said Lecresha. " I believe that being a positive attribute in the world starts in the community." Lecresha is currently a senior at Central High School Magnet Career Academy. In addition to maintaining a 3.7 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: Black Achievers program and Tourism Honors Academy. She is the vice-president of the Beta Club, president of the National Honor Society, and captain of the Majorette team. She also participates in Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA) the Government Scholars Program and is an All-State track runner.

Julian is currently a senior at Seneca High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.2 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: FCA and the Men of Quality Mentoring Program

"Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our daily "hustle and bustle" that we lose sight of the big picture," said Lauren. "Community involvement really puts our lives and priorities back in perspective. It reminds us of what is most important in life - people." Lauren is currently a senior at Mercy Academy. In addition to maintaining a 3.97 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include being president of the National Honor Society, member of Project Life Club, Foreign Language Club and she plays varsity softball.

"Being involved in your community, whether it be in your church, school, community organizations, workplace, etc. is very important. This is quite easy to do when you are from a small community like I am," said Matthew. "By becoming involved, you know what's going on in your community. You also feel as though your community represents you, and you want to help make it the best it can be. Becoming involved also allows you to get to know a variety of people who may be able to help you in your future." Matthew is currently a senior at Henry County High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.9 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: National Honors Society, Future Farmers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Hunter Education Instructor, Youth Leader at church, Relay for Life team member, 4-H shooting sports.

"I think it's important to be involved in your community because not everyone is so fortunate," said Autumn. "I think everyone deserves a little help and a second chance." Autumn is currently a senior at North Oldham High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include being president of the National Art Honor Society and a member of the National Honor Society. She also volunteers at the Home of the Innocents and has an internship at The Center for Women and Families.

"It is important for me to be involved in community," said Michael. "So that I can indirectly give back to those who have given so much to me without expecting anything in return." Michael is currently a senior at Villa Madonna Academy. In addition to maintaining a 3.77 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: basketball, golf, tennis, Student Council, National Honor Society, Honor Code Committee, 7-UP Junior Golf Tour, Gatorade Junior Golf Tour and the John O'Bryan Math Tournament.

"It's important for everyone to be involved in the community to make the community strong," said Lauren. "The community returns that strength to individuals." Lauren is currently a senior at Newport Central Catholic. In addition to maintaining a 3.89 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include being the captain of the cross country team, and the track team. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Students for Life, School Play, Pep Club, Newspaper and Youth Group. She has volunteered at the soup kitchen, nursing home, Parish festivals and has tutored students.

Region 10

"Getting involved in the community is a great opportunity to meet new people, have experiences you otherwise never would have had", said Scott. "It just makes you feel good inside knowing that you made a difference." Scott is currently a senior at Scott High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: National Honor Society and the German National Honor Society. His volunteer work included helping the Thomas Moore College Baseball Camp, Northern Kentucky Children's Home, the Cable Board at NKY, the elementary school's basketball league, numerous canned food drives, church festivals and he helped elder members of his community with snow removal.

Michelle is currently a senior at Bishop Brossart High School with a 3.94 GPA.

"I feel that it's part of my "Job" as a U.S. citizen to be a part of my community," said Steven. "There are other people around the world that can't be involved in their community, but the truth is everyone benefits from being involved." Steven is currently a senior at Henry Clay High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.5 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: football, Teen Soyo (a church group for teens), a God's Pantry volunteer, a Shriner's Hospital volunteer and a member of the 1,000 pound club (associated with Henry Clay football).

"I believe it is important to be involved in your community because it is just that, your community," said Ranthony. "You should take pride in where you live and always try to make it better. It is also important to help those who make up the less fortunate part of your community. In the course of life you never know when that could be you that needs the support of young people who want to make a difference." Ranthony is currently a senior at Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.4 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: YMCA Black Achievers and the YMCA Black Achievers Advisory Board. Her service with the FCCLA includes being, vice secretary, president, and a member of the senior executive board. She is also on the girls varsity basketball team and she does community service at Central Baptist Hospital.

Juan is currently a senior at East Jessamine High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.31 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: Golf, basketball and baseball.

" I feel that it is important to be involved in my community because no matter how large or small your community is there is always someone that needs a helping hand", said Meredith. "I have always felt like it was my job to help them. It also gives me a voice in the community." Meredith is currently a senior at Casey County High School with a 3.59 GPA.

"My community has played an integral part in my development - physically, mentally and socially," said Jeremy. "These same positive influences need to be available to the next generation of students. Through being involved in my community, hopefully I can be a positive influence for someone; I can pay it forward." Jeremy is currently a senior at Bell County High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.78 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: Beta Club, Nation Honor Society, First Priority, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Peer Mentor. In the community he has been active with the Mill Creek Baptist Youth, Pine-Bell County Little League, Nursing Home Ministry and the Bread of Life Rescue Mission.

"It's my responsibility; my community is where I live," said Rhea. " It has given me so much already, it only seems right to give back in any way I can. If somebody can do it, why not me?" Rhea is currently a senior at Middlesboro High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: Academic Team, Governor's Cup, Science Olympiad, Key Club president, National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Prom Committee, Leadership Bell County and Varsity girl's golf. She has also been a school tutor, volunteer dance instructor, a member of the Youth Ministry Team, Youth Praise Team and a volunteer church pianist.

"It's important to be involved in your community because it's always great to help others out," said Dustin. "Everyone needs a helping hand every now and then." Dustin is currently a senior at Estill County High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.6 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: Beta Club, FBLA, Peer Mentoring Senior, Senior Leadership Program, Treasurer of Class and Tennis. His community service includes being involved in the Backpack Buddy Program, Light up the Rivertown, School Carnival, Christmas Church Play, Co-editor of the Yearbook, and the Science Excel program.

"I feel that it's good to help others, while at the same time meeting a variety of people from all different backgrounds," said Meghan. "It is also very rewarding knowing that maybe I have helped make a difference." Meghan is currently a senior at Hazard High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: volleyball, basketball, softball, FCA leader, journalism, Youth Handbells & Youth Choir at church. BADD, Recording Secretary of National Honor Society, Co-VP of Senior Class and Honor Roll.

"Community involvement before college prepares you for the real world," said Will. "It allows you to work with other people, develop an understanding for their thoughts and work ethics, and develop your own strengths while understanding and overcoming your own weakness. It also helps the community to grow and to develop as a whole and instills a sense of pride in those working toward the common goal." Will is currently a senior at Pikeville High School. In addition to maintaining a 4.0 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: National Honor Society, Youth Leadership Organization, football, track and a hospital volunteer.

"I think it is important to be involved in my community to preserve the good things, to make positive changes, and most importantly to give back the care and support I have received to reach my goals," said Devon. "Community service allowed me a chance to grow in a safe, encouraging environment and learn skills for the future. Devon is currently a senior at Paintsville High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.94 GPA, she is an active community leader. Her extra-curricular activities include: Beta Club, Library Club, Drama Club, Spanish Club, Student Council, FCCLA, STLP, Golf, Softball, Prom Committee, Homecoming Committee, Relay for Life, Jumpstart, Growing Up Safe, Safe Night, Kids Helping Kids, Make a Difference Day, Unite to Read and Drug, Alcohol & Tobacco Awareness.

"It's important for me be to involved in my community so that I can better understand the different facets of life," said Corey. "The young men and women of today's society are the future leaders of America." Corey is currently a senior at Greenup County High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.4 GPA, he is an active community leader. His extra-curricular activities include: golf, basketball and baseball. His community service includes Upward Bound basketball and Youth Council.

"I feel that it is very important to be involved in your community because it gives you a change to meet new people and to experience new things," said Amanda. "It makes you feel good about your self and that you are a part of something." Amanda is currently a senior at Fairview High School. In addition to maintaining a 3.8 GPA, she is an active community leader. Just a few of her numerous extra-curricular activities include being the 2006 DJ Preston Athlete of the Year Award winner, Senior Class President, member of the LEO Club, National Honor Society, Captain of the Track Team and she has served extensively throughout her community with the Boyd County Youth Council for Volunteerism and Service.
